Osprey Valley grew in stages on rolling farmland an hour northwest of Toronto, in the town of Caledon. Canadian architect Doug Carrick, who designed all three of the property's courses, opened the North Course in 2001 as a parkland-style layout — generous corridors, natural land movement, a sense of scale that set it apart from the tighter, more heavily bunkered Heathlands and Hoot courses already on the property. For most of its life the North Course was simply one strong layout among three, known regionally but without a national stage.
That changed in 2018, when Osprey Valley joined the TPC Network — the first Canadian facility ever to do so — becoming TPC Toronto. The move signaled bigger ambitions, and in 2024 the PGA Tour confirmed them: the RBC Canadian Open, the country's national championship and one of the oldest tournaments in professional golf, would move to the North Course starting in 2025.
Getting ready meant rebuilding. Ian Andrew, a former associate of Carrick's who had worked construction on all three Osprey Valley courses, led a renovation beginning in 2023 that expanded greens, reworked bunkering, and added new teeing grounds to stretch the course toward championship length, while keeping the playability that had defined Carrick's original design. The course closed the day after the 2023 August long weekend and reopened in mid-2024, ready for the Tour.
The North Course hosted its first RBC Canadian Open in June 2025, becoming the 38th course — and only the eighth since 1977 — to host Canada's national open in its long history. Ryan Fox won that inaugural edition in a four-hole playoff over Sam Burns, sinking the winning birdie on the par-5 18th; a year later, Bud Cauley broke through for his first PGA Tour title on the same course. In just a few short seasons, a Caledon farmland layout has become the permanent modern home of Canadian golf's biggest week.
